Health Office

Message from the School Nurse

As your school nurse I work closely with parents, faculty and students to maintain a healthy and safe environment for our students.  I conduct screenings throughout the year evaluating height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing and scoliosis.  Health records are kept current on each student in accordance to State Immunization Requirements.  Children who require medication are able to receive medication administered in the school setting with minimal disruption to the child’s learning experience.  Additionally, all school medical emergencies, health concerns and first aid is provided to students and staff.

Health Office Reminders

Please keep emergency contact information current.

All medications must have a Doctor's written order... even over the counter ones like Tylenol and eye drops. The form can be downloaded from the Edison school website at

Children should stay at home if any of these symptoms exist:

Fever – 100 degrees  or greater

Fever within the last 24 hours

Vomiting/Diarrhea until feeling better

Unexplained rash

Redness/drainage from eyes

 Severe cold symptoms

Students should return to school when temperature is normal for the past 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and when the child feels well enough to be in school for a full day.

Please do not send in cough drops with your child.  Cough drops are not permitted in school as they present as a choking hazard for children.  Speak with your pediatrician about other options for cough suppression and relief of your child’s cough symptoms.

Medication Administration Notes

Medication Orders must be on the district’s approved medication order form.  The forms are available on the districts website

Please remember to sign your portion of the form allowing the school nurse to administer the medication.

The medication prescribed should be sent into school in the original box you receive it in from the pharmacy, with the pharmacy label attached.

Please be sure to send in all the prescribed medication and supplies as ordered by the doctor.  For example:  Please send in  Aero Chambers/Spacers/Tubing & Mask or Pipe for nebulizer medication & Benadryl  as prescribed by the doctor for children with Benadryl and Epi Pen orders.  The health office does not provide this.

.  Please feel free to contact me with any health concerns and updates you may have for your child.  I look forward to working with you to provide a healthy environment for your children to learn.
